Hospital Sketches
Sketchcrawl 2009
Met a handful of new artists at the Honolulu Sketchcrawl. I was a bad crawler though. The Hawaii State Art Museum, I discovered, has a family arts and crafts event called Second Saturdays, and I ended up spending most of the crawl talking to the events coordinators about the program and volunteering. For the later part of the crawl, I re-joined the group and managed to make this painting. My first water color ... ever (not counting water color pencils)!!!

I'm flattered but WTF!!
Hello Peeps. That thing I mentioned about people stealing your work.
Look-ie at what I found!!!! This guy/girl was trying to steal my character and sell it as their own. I am terribly, terribly troubled by this.

Read it here!

WonderCon
I just returned back home to the islands after spending a little over a week in the Bay Area and checking out the WonderCon! Good Times. Ate a ton of good food, found a new favorite coffee called Blue Bottle, chilled with friends, and GEEKED OUT at the WonderCon! Thanks to all my friends for letting me crash on their couches and floors, and even managing the time to hang out. I wish I could have stayed longer.
I bought a sketch book with the goal of filling it out during the trip ... i managed to make it through half the book. About 50 pages worth of doodles. I'm going to try and scan some of them in to share. So stay tuned!
Here's some bad-ass WonderCon costume Pics. BumbleBee was the show stopper for sure.

LisaWongArt.Com
No image post today, but I still wanted to share something with everyone. This past week Andy, a bad-ass web designer that I know, and I came together to created a website for a friend.
So, my friend and another talented artist, Lisa Wong just won a beauty pageant and because of her talent (which you've got to check out) she was recently invited as a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Lisa asked if I would be able to design and construct a website for her, and of course I said "Hell, Yea!" ... Well, maybe not in such emphatic words, but I was definitely excited to make one for her. I asked Andy if he would be interested, and he was psyched to help.
Lisa's appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show was still open, but they were hoping to interview her within the week. After talking with Lisa, Andy and I started to design the site Wednesday night following our day-time jobs ... come Friday Lisa tells us that her interview was set for the upcoming Monday!! With our busy schedules we had to get the site done by Saturday. I cranked out the final visual designs by Saturday afternoon and Andy was able to finish programing the site by late Saturday evening. Boo Ya! There's a few things we need to set up, like her blog and getting Lisa's videos on the site, but otherwise we managed to build her website in about a good 20-something hours.
Here is a youtube clip of Lisa's talent, check it out:

more Hospital Sketches
These were the sketches that I did today. It has been really slow the past two weeks, which is awesome. Cause that means there's less kids coming to the ER. Although it's been slow there was a great kid that was extremely interested in drawing. He could draw the bust of Scooby Doo from memory!! Amazing. Well he asked me to teach him how to draw the afro dude on the first sketch and with his direction we made a full body character of said afro dude. Both he and I drew the full body character. I took a picture of his dude, but can't figure out how to get it from my cel phone to the computer without a blue tooth connection. Damn you motorola!!!!! and damn me for being too cheap to buy blue tooth!!!!

Hospital Sketches
Hey peeps. So these aren't sketches of a hospital, but sketches done while at the hospital. I've begun volunteering at a Children's Hospital. The program is called "Art for Life" and the responsibilities are to create arts and crafts with the kids in the ER waiting room. The idea is to give them as positive of an experience as possible and to keep them and their siblings occupied until they're called in. More or less, it becomes a temporary day care, which is not a problem. I'm happy to help relieve a bit of burden from the distressed parents. It's been an enormous reward hearing their thanks and seeing them and their children leave with a smile. Anyways, these sketches are usually my warm ups to help me get into the creative mind set for the kids. I'm going to try to post my hospital sketches every week.
On a different note. I must apologize for the smaller scans and overlaying watermarks. The orphaned art issue is still out there and I've already seen a couple of artworks from other blogs being ripped off. And rather blatantly too. So watermarking and smaller scans provided me with enough peace of mind to continue posting.
Well thanks for passing by. I'll see you next week.
