Monkey Painting

This is something I finished yesterday for my sister's sister-in-law, who also cuts my hair. So this painting is worth at least three years of haircuts. I'm planning to make this a two piece set with a night scene. The second will help keep me looking good for the next three years. Alllllll-right! Giggity giggity goo!!

if you're curious it's 10x8, acrylic

Matcha Latte Media

Designed a logo for my friend's business, Matcha Latte Media. He's become an expert on cultural differences between Japan and the World. With that experience and knowledge he helps small companies bring and market their products across international borders.

Don't let language barriers and cultural differences limit the success of your products. Dozo!

88 Tees

Here's the latest 88 Tees design. A wrap around design inspired by School House Rock.

Busy Bees Hawaii

I'm proud to announce that Busy Bees Hawaii is now up and running! I've been working very hard on the site with my sister and friends at Mix Plate Media to build our online store. Busy Bees Hawaii is the company started by my family and I to sell clothes with original characters and designs by yours truly. :)

Although we're originally focused on baby and infant clothing, we do provide adult sizes. Become a facebook fan of BusyBeesHawaii if you like our stuff.

I hope everyone is having a great thanksgiving holiday!!

88 Tees

The past few months I've been designing t-shirts for a company called 88 Tees. They're a small chain of stores with a Japanese urban/pop/rebel feel that sells vintage clothes. In the states they're not that famous. I believe they're not even that famous among the locals of Hawaii. It's like you've heard of them, but never been there. Well, apparently, they're extremely famous in Japan. It's like a top 5 destination for Japanese tourists. Which was confirmed by my friends living in Japan. I had absolutely no idea.

They have a set of characters that they own and use. I was asked to design shirts specifically with those characters, but in my style. The following poster is based on one of the shirts I designed for them. I heard that it is selling well!

Hope you like it.

Been awhile

Hey everyone. Work has been extremely busy lately. So much so that I had to stop volunteering at the hospital. I'm hoping to work out a regular schedule so I can continue drawing with the patients and their families again.

But a Flash project I've been working on last week is up and live! I was asked to fully produce a 15 second Flash animation of a Yorkshire Terrier digging a bone from the ground for the Florida Lottery's latest game. You can watch it here at the Florida Lottery website. It was a crazy and intense production as I helped create the storyboards, animatic, character design, and final flash animation within a week. It was a great experience with great clients to help see how much I could push myself. Also, I have to give my thanks to my friend, Aaron, for being available. His presence helped me keep a good work pace so I didn't burn out too quickly. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hospital Sketches

These were with a handful of kids two weeks ago. They were loads of fun. As you'll see, I was the subject of another future illustrator. Not only that, I'm buff and have a 5 o'clock stach. I also challenged the kids to draw along with me, and we drew chocolate chip cookies.

Sketchcrawl 2009

Met a handful of new artists at the Honolulu Sketchcrawl. I was a bad crawler though. The Hawaii State Art Museum, I discovered, has a family arts and crafts event called Second Saturdays, and I ended up spending most of the crawl talking to the events coordinators about the program and volunteering. For the later part of the crawl, I re-joined the group and managed to make this painting. My first water color ... ever (not counting water color pencils)!!!

Hospital Sketch

It was pretty busy at the hospital today. So I only had the time to draw, as my friend might say, one "freaky."

I'm flattered but WTF!!

Hello Peeps. That thing I mentioned about people stealing your work.
Look-ie at what I found!!!! This guy/girl was trying to steal my character and sell it as their own. I am terribly, terribly troubled by this.

I just returned back home to the islands after spending a little over a week in the Bay Area and checking out the WonderCon! Good Times. Ate a ton of good food, found a new favorite coffee called Blue Bottle, chilled with friends, and GEEKED OUT at the WonderCon! Thanks to all my friends for letting me crash on their couches and floors, and even managing the time to hang out. I wish I could have stayed longer.

I bought a sketch book with the goal of filling it out during the trip ... i managed to make it through half the book. About 50 pages worth of doodles. I'm going to try and scan some of them in to share. So stay tuned!

Here's some bad-ass WonderCon costume Pics. BumbleBee was the show stopper for sure.

More Hospital Sketches

Been drawing animals with goofy eyes lately. No real reason other than it makes me laugh.

No image post today, but I still wanted to share something with everyone. This past week Andy, a bad-ass web designer that I know, and I came together to created a website for a friend.

So, my friend and another talented artist, Lisa Wong just won a beauty pageant and because of her talent (which you've got to check out) she was recently invited as a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Lisa asked if I would be able to design and construct a website for her, and of course I said "Hell, Yea!" ... Well, maybe not in such emphatic words, but I was definitely excited to make one for her. I asked Andy if he would be interested, and he was psyched to help.

Lisa's appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show was still open, but they were hoping to interview her within the week. After talking with Lisa, Andy and I started to design the site Wednesday night following our day-time jobs ... come Friday Lisa tells us that her interview was set for the upcoming Monday!! With our busy schedules we had to get the site done by Saturday. I cranked out the final visual designs by Saturday afternoon and Andy was able to finish programing the site by late Saturday evening. Boo Ya! There's a few things we need to set up, like her blog and getting Lisa's videos on the site, but otherwise we managed to build her website in about a good 20-something hours.

Here is a youtube clip of Lisa's talent, check it out:

Swamp Creature

Cleaned up one of the creatures from my Halloween sketch. I'm enjoying the color scheme on this one. Now I just need to draw him in a better pose so he's not so static.
